Kids should be able to express themselves freely.
From their style of clothing, to the color of their hair (within reason depending on age of course).
Being a child means being free of societal bounds, being creative beyond measure, and showing it in some of the most inspirational of ways.
Sure when a kid comes to you and says "I want my hair green" your first knee-jerk reaction is "Yeah right!"
But think, what really is the harm, of letting your budding human being be an individual?
You may say "I don't want to lighten my young child's hair!"
There are options for you, hair chalk is GREAT, especially for our little ones, and those undecided on what they want and if they'll like it.
Multiple colors of hair chalk are available at many local drugstores and even Walmart! You simply glide it across the area of hair you want to apply color, with your hand adding pressure on the opposite side (pro tip: put a paper towel or glove between your hand and the hair!) And then seal it off with a light misting of hairspray!
Little boys look super cool with a colorful tipped mohawk, and little girls look precious with playful peek-a-boos.
For these looks however, we opted for more permanent styles.
For our first look, we wanted a peek-a-boo effect that could be hidden for dance class, but worn out when she wanted to show it off.
I only had to pre-lighten her slightly, and when I asked her how she wanted her colors laid, she said "surprise me". Yay, a hairstylists favorite words, and with it coming from a kiddo, I knew I had to make it fun! So I did each peek-a-boo in alternating ombre patterns with teal and purple to give a tie-dyed effect when it popped through!
For our second look on our natural level 1-2 hair, we started out by taking off quite a bit of length and giving her a super cute pixie.
Next I pre-lightened and toned to give us a nice clean slate, afterwards I placed the new (and super exciting) Kenra Neon Creatives in green on our pre-lightened areas.
The result was a big pop of green (she wanted it all green, but for moms sake, we toned it down a bit) and under the blacklight she turned into a source of light herself! Believe me when I say you need to see this effect in person!
Both of these styles were customized just for these young, beautiful souls. And it was refreshing to see parents allowing their children to express themselves as they embarked on their journey through another year of school!
